Introducing Solar Roof Tiles

In December 2011, a partner of Transform Solar, Greentec, showcased an innovative solar product designed specifically for the Japanese residential roof market— XSOL-SLIVER roof tiles.

The new Photovoltaic roof tile, co- developed by Transform Solar and Greentec, offers innovative and simple installation in addition to its superior partial shading performance.

XSOL-SLIVER tiles provide an integrated system with the wiring, junction box, and connectors. Combined with the performance of SLIVER cell solar technology and a sleek frameless design, the XSOL-SLIVER tiles attracted a lot of attention from both commercial and residential builders, architects, and installers.

More than 10,000 attendees visited the XSOL-SLIVER booth to watch installation demonstrations and learn more about the unique benefits these roof tiles bring to the solar market during the PVJapan 2011 tradeshow held in Makuhari Messe, Tokyo, Japan.

XSOL-SLIVER tiles are expected to make their appearance in the Japanese market the second half of 2012.

Interview with Phil Mackey, Executive Manager, as published on Solar Power Daily News, Dallas, TX.

1. What is Transform Solar's main line of business?
Transform Solar is bringing its solely owned, innovative SLIVER™ photovoltaic technology to market. We have substantial manufacturing assets in the U.S. and are backed by two major and complementary companies: Micron Technology and Origin Energy. We are in production and within the next 2–3 years will be scaling our SLIVER-based solar module production capacity to over 300 MW per year.

2. What would you say makes your company unique?
SLIVER technology is a novel way to make bifacial, very thin, monocrystalline silicon solar cells. These cells are distinctively different; they are smaller, thinner, and more flexible than conventional cells. Using these points of differentiation, we can offer lightweight, flexible modules that better meet our customers’ needs because they are competitive in price and they deliver higher energy yields, better partial-shading performance, and lower module-to-module mismatch.
